2016 Reserve Silhouette du Cœur
Library Release
Each year, our Winemakers select special library wines to release for the holidays. These wines have been perfectly aged in our temperature-regulated cellar, so that we can re-release them to you in their prime drinking windows. These bottles are proof that patience is often rewarded, and each bottle would be a worthy choice to share with family and friends this season.
We farm just four acres of Marsanne, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc at Heart Hill Vineyard. From French, the name of this blend translates to “Silhouette of the Heart” in reference to the fact that the three varietals in this blend grow on different edges of the vineyard. Each vintage our winemaking team ferments each grape a bit differently and composes a final blend a few months after harvest.
These ferments include partial skin fermentation on the Marsanne, stainless steel barrels on the Grenache Blanc and co-ferments of Marsanne and Roussanne. From all of these experiments emerges the final blend, which was Marsanne dominant for the first time in 2016. The wine was transferred to a large demi-muid cask to age for over a year. Silhouette du Coeur is one of the only wines that we put through extended barrel aging; the natural acidity and flavors hold up well and we’ve found that the additional time in barrel creates a gorgeous profile.
