2018 Reserve Super Paso
Bootjack Ranch
Our first vintage of a Petit Verdot dominant Super Paso! Petit Verdot dates back to the Roman Empire and is famous for its thick skin and small berries, creating wines with deep color, tannins and dark fruit flavors. This makes it an ideal wine for aging and a wine that we love to revisit after 5+ years in bottle.
The name “Super Paso” pays homage to “Super Tuscans” – wines crafted by Italian winemakers who broke tradition by blending French varietals with native grapes. In 2018, our Petit Verdot showed remarkable color, depth and tannin structure and we knew early on that it would become the base of this blend. Accent pieces of Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese added layers of plush fruit qualities, lift and vibrancy. We aged the blend in 40% new French oak barrels for 17 months. This wine has developed beautifully over time, revealing notes of juicy plum, violet and black tea.
