2020 Reserve Carménère

This wine was included in our special offers for Wine Club Week 2025 which happened at the winery last week. We're now releasing a small amount digitally for members who weren't able to join us in person! These wines were all selected by our winemakers during their annual library tasting and are exceptional expressions of our estate vineyards that have aged beautifully. They are ready to enjoy within the next year.

Less than 60 aces of Carménère are planted in California, and the the varietal is notoriously tough to ripen. In 2020, a couple of late-season heat spikes helped our Carménère at Bootjack Ranch ripen beautifully. We aged the wine for 20 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new. We intentionally included some heavy toast barrels to add coffee and butterscotch notes. This vintage is a classic expression of Carménère, and it has been a fun wine to watch develop as it continues to evolve with age. It has an expansive palate and plush blueberry and spice notes, underscored by vanilla and warm oak. The robust tannins have softened slightly over time, becoming more rounded and elegant.
