2020 Reserve Carménère
Bootjack Ranch
Carménère is notoriously tough to ripen and generally needs warm weather to fully develop. A couple of late-season heat spikes in 2020 helped our Carménère at Bootjack Ranch reach full ripeness. We hand-sorted, destemmed and gravity-fed the grapes into a combination of stainless steel and oak tanks where the grapes fermented for 11 days. We aged the wine for 20 months in standard French oak barrels, 40% of which were new. We used some heavy toast barrels to add coffee and butterscotch notes. This vintage is a classic expression of Carménère from Bootjack Ranch, with plush fruit (blueberry) and spice (black pepper), accentuated by warm oak.
