We farm just nine acres of Syrah at Jespersen Ranch, our coastal vineyard just four miles from the Pacific Ocean. The site’s cool, foggy mornings and warm afternoon breezes create a unique environment to craft a Syrah that reflects the maritime climate of the vineyard. This is a robust wine, with dark fruit and savory flavors accented by broad, brushy tannins and a stunning acidity.
In 2020 we hand-harvested our Syrah grapes and brought them to the winery where we foot-stomped them for gentle extraction. The Syrah from this site always has an exceptionally dark, opaque color from the start and we fermented the juice in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks. We aged the wine in French oak barrels for 20 months before composing the final blend and bottling it. Jespersen Ranch Syrah is one of our favorite wines to age as it evolves beautifully over time.
