This wine showcases everything we love about Jespersen Ranch Syrah: it has vibrant black cherry and blueberry flavors alongside savory black pepper, sage and BBQ. When grown in a cool, coastal climate, Syrah is a slow-ripening grape and is typically our last pick each harvest. We hand-harvested the grapes and gently whole-cluster pressed them, fermenting in small open-top tanks with some whole clusters to add tannin complexity and spice. We aged the wine for 18 months in French and American oak. This is an ageable red wine with a rich, velvety body surrounded by structured, lasting tannins. If enjoying in its youth, it would benefit from a short decant.
