2022 Pinot Noir
Jespersen Ranch’s foggy mornings and coastal breezes provide the perfect environment for Pinot Noir. In 2022, a September heatwave drove us to harvest our Pinot Noir grapes very quickly. We hand-harvested everything in just 5 days, a process that usually takes 4-6 weeks! A compressed harvest meant that we had to get creative as our tanks quickly filled up. We fermented the grapes in open-top stainless steel tanks, a concrete tank and macro bins. We included whole-cluster, destemmed and dried stem components to build layers and complexity. The result of this dynamic winemaking in the face of a fast harvest yielded a beautiful example of coastal Pinot Noir with dark fruit flavors, black tea and herbal qualities.
