We farm a diverse set of Pinot Noir clones at Jespersen Ranch, our coastal vineyard just four miles from the Pacific Ocean. The site’s cool, foggy mornings and warm afternoon breezes create an exceptional environment to craft pure, stunning wines that reflect the maritime climate. The 2022 Reserve Pinot Noir is elegant and complex, with a balance of fruit flavors accented with earth and spice notes. It’s a vibrant wine that will age beautifully and would make a fine addition to any collector’s cellar.
Two of our favorite parcels in the vineyard are Block 15 and 17 and they inspired this year’s Reserve wine. We hand-harvested the delicate clusters and fermented them in small stainless steel tanks. We use a variety of whole-cluster and grape stems inclusion in our fermentations to build a complex, layered expression of Pinot Noir. We pressed the grapes with our basket press and then aged the wine for 11 months in French oak barrels. Our Winemakers then selected the best 20 barrels to craft this wine.
