2016 Fog Catcher
45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Malbec, 14% Petit Verdot, 15% Carmenere
Fog Catcher is always made from the highest quality Bordeaux fruit each year and in 2016, we co-fermented Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot to build a powerful foundation for the blend. Other stand-out Bordeaux barrels were marked and tucked away for nearly a year before our Winemaker revisited each barrel to make his final selection. The 2016 Fog Catcher was aged for a total of 29 months in 90% New French Oak barrels and the finished wine is a harmonious blend of intriguing spice, dark fruits and expansive tannins that linger on your palate for minutes after drinking.
2016 Reserve Super Paso, Bootjack Ranch
41% Sangiovese, 30% Petit Verdot, 19% Barbera, 9% Cabernet Franc, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon
“Super Tuscans” originated from renegade Italian winemakers who scorned traditional blending laws in order to make their own unique wines. In their spirit, our Super Paso takes two Italian grapes, Sangiovese and Barbera, and blends them with non-traditional grapes from Bootjack Ranch. This year, we chose a dose of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was aged in a large, wooden cask for 18 months before bottling. This wine is a great addition to any dinner table!
2016 Reserve Square Root, Heart Hill Vineyard
52% Syrah, 34% Grenache, 14% Mourvèdre
2016 Reserve Square Root, Heart Hill Vineyard
Square Root is our version of a Reserve “GSM” and is a bolder, more nuanced version of the blend. After a few months of barrel aging the 2016 vintage we selected standout barrels of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre from Heart Hill Vineyard. These top barrels created the final blend that we aged an additional 8 months in a 2000L wooden cask (that’s more than 15x the size of a normal barrel). An additional year of aging in bottle softened the firm tannin profile for a luxurious, rich wine.
2017 Club 9
68% Malbec, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon
Each year, people from across our team come together for a blending competition to create this members-only blend. The winning blend is selected by our winemaking team. The 2017 blend was submitted by our Enologist, Bricklyn, and has a gorgeous base of Malbec - one of our Club’s favorite grapes!
2017 Zinfandel
90% Zinfandel, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot
In early 2016 we acquired our neighbor’s property where the Clevenger family grew head-trained Zinfandel. After putting in a year of rehabilitation on these older vines, we bottled our first-ever estate Zinfandel! These vines have history: they were planted in the early 2000s with vine cuttings from the historic Ueberroth vineyard which was planted in 1885, making it the oldest vineyard in the Paso Robles AVA. Our inaugural vintage of estate Zinfandel is an elegant and refined representation of the varietal.
2017 GSM
60% Syrah, 22% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre
GSM stands for “Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre” and is used broadly to classify blends made of these Rhone grapes. Each year we craft a small amount from our vines at Heart Hill Vineyard. With a high percentage of Syrah, this wine is opulent and dark. Grenache adds a freshness rounded out by an earthy component and dusty tannins from the Mourvèdre.
